The Atlanta Peach Drop is an annual New Year’s Eve celebration held in Atlanta, Georgia. The event is centered around a giant peach that is dropped from a 138-foot-tall tower at midnight. The peach is made of fiberglass and weighs approximately 800 pounds. It is illuminated with over 1,000 LED lights and is a popular tourist attraction.
The first Atlanta Peach Drop was held in 1989. The event was created by Mayor Maynard Jackson as a way to celebrate the city’s nickname, “The Big Peach.” The Peach Drop has since become one of the most popular New Year’s Eve celebrations in the United States. In 2019, over 300,000 people attended the event.
