The General Schedule (GS) pay scale is a system used by the United States government to determine the salaries of civilian federal employees. The GS pay table for 2025 has not yet been released, but it is expected to be similar to the current pay table, which was released in 2023.
The GS pay table is divided into 15 grades, with each grade having 10 steps. The grade of a position is determined by the level of difficulty and responsibility of the work, and the step within a grade is determined by the employee’s length of service.
